I am a senior with an additional slight grip strength impairment of my left hand, so I have to be careful of buying semi-auto's that I don't have the opportunity to work the slide on beforehand. I am pretty settled on either the 01 or the 07 (considering their reliability and features) but cannot find one of either to see if the slide action is easy enough for me. I just purchased a Shield EZ 9mm and that IS "EZ" to rack even for me, as a possible yardstick, however, I also own a XD .45acp which I can't even BUDGE and have to use a Brass Stacker pull ring to work it.
I know the fact that the two CZ's are DA/SA and 9mm should make them pretty easy to charge, but I'm wondering whether the fact that the slides ride inside the frame rail make it more difficult?
How would you compare both to each other, and also both to other manufacturer's DA/SA hammer strike 9mm's?
One way you can lower the amount of force required to rack the slide on a DA/SA gun is to cock the hammer first. I can't say that a P-07 is particularly easy to rack but it isn't particularly hard either. Sorry, I know that probably doesn't help much. Could also run a lighter recoil spring.
You may run into issues with the amount of purchase you can get on the slide because there is less of it exposed with it riding inside the slide.

Thanks! Yes, I absolutely plan to rack with the hammer cocked as that is my main reason for wanting a DA/SA. (the other reason is if I carry it I want to carry with the hammer down, no safety on) I really think I ought to be able to do it without much effort as long as the hammer is cocked?
The Shield EZ looks like a striker but is actually a concealed hammer which operates like an external hammer as far as racking the slide, which explains why it's so easy. I don't expect the CZ's will be THAT effortless, but I'm guessing they're not that much harder?
I am leaning towards the P-07 over the P-01 simply because the striations on the 07 look more PRONOUNCED and "grippable". So I'm assuming there would be a bit better purchase there than the 01.
Does anyone have experience with BOTH that can confirm or contest that?
I own a P-07 and have shot a P-01. Out of the two I would definitely say the P-07 is easier to get a grip on the slide. The serrations are much more aggressive.
Not sure if you're looking at these for carry or home defense (both?) or strictly range use but CGW sells a "racker sight" that works with the P01 (but not the 07)
Mainly home defense but I would also like the potential of being able to carry it. I don't have a CWP (yet) but I have a Shield EZ 9mm which is smaller for that, but is only 8+1, so I'd like the HD gun to be not so large that it can't be carried also.
That's an interesting rack aid. This is what I'm looking at, though, should I get the CZ...
When I rack my CZ, I use my left hand over the top, and push my hand against the rear sight, in addition to gripping the slide. Seems to work easy enough.
I have an 07,I'm also 74 years old and have arthritis in both hands and have no difficulty in racking the slide. I would recommend that you change the main spring though. I replaced the captive spring with a dual spring progressive setup that reduced the recoil without increasing the slide resistance.
In addition to cocking the hammer, and using an overhand grip on your slide - you want to make sure that you are holding the gun close to you body, where your core strength will help. Also, you do not want to just move your slide. Your strong hand should be pushing the frame in the opposite direction. Hope this helps out.
Just picked up a p07, the p07 is definitely easier to rack the slide.
