Ever since the first batches of CZ-75s started floating into the country in the late 70s, these guns have made appearances in practical competition shooting. With that in mind, it looks like CZ-USA is moving forward with a series of shooting improvement videos as well as becoming involved in the Scholastic Pistol Program.

The SPP, taking it one plate at a time

One of the best programs for youth shooting in the country is the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation spun off from the National Shooting Sports Foundation in 2007. The SSSF supports two different disciplines, the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) and the Scholastic Pistol Program (SPP).

What makes the SPP unique is that it allows youth aged 12 through college to participate in speed shooting competitions on steel targets. They believe this event combines the best features of other sport shooting and allows young men and women to participate in a fast growing and exciting sport.

For more information check out this video below from CZ:

An Introduction to the Scholastic Pistol Program with Team CZ-USA member and USPSA Grand Master Matt Hopkins. And yes, that is a CZ P-09 polymer Czech made pistol.

"Like all the sports SSSF offers, SPP is designed to instill in young people a set of personal values or character traits for fair play, compassionate understanding, individual responsibility, sportsmanship, self-discipline, and personal commitment. As the sport itself, these qualities will stay with them throughout their lifetimes, helping each young athlete reach his or her full potential.

  • Our athletes compete in a centerfire and/or a rimfire division.
  • Targets are steel circle or rectangular plates.
  • All courses of fire are timed events.

In the second installment of CZ's commitment to the program, they released this tips video, with good pointers for both new and existing shooters.

In this video, USPSA Grand Master Matt Hopkins gives a few shooting tips that will help shooters clear stages more quickly.

Stay tuned for the next set of videos and see you on the range.
