Well i picked up a nice 527 Varmint chambered for the little 17 Hornet. Looking to sighting it in but the forcast for today is wind and showers or flurries. Crap i'm begining to detest winter. I'll post results of my range test when i'm done, the only ammo i have is Hornady with 20gr bullets and no dies around yet but i'm looking. I prefer to try as many different factory loads as i can get before loading so i have a good comparison. But i don't think there is to many options available.

Excuse the question as I am learning. I didn't know you could load .17 Or is it only correct you can't REload .17?

Do you have a scope on the rifle? I look forward to your range report.
Yes you can reload the 17 hornet, it is the 22 hornet necked down to 17 caliber. The scope i installed is a Vortex 6-18 but i had issues when sighting it in, not enough windage available. Not sure if it is the scope or rings which are Leupold, i'll be trying another scope first. Initall group looked good .5" at 100 yards just 8" left of where i want to be and no movment left on the scope. If weather permits i'll be out tomorrow.
I also have zero rifle experience. Doesn't 8 inches off at 100 yds seem like a lot? Could there be something wrong with the mounts on that particular gun?

What Balota said, if it wasn't windy the day you shot, I'd be looking at spinning one or both rings around 180 degrees, making sure they aren't off center at the rail, and/or swapping them front to rear and vice versa.

If you had a bore sighting laser, you could check results of that in the house.
Looks like the scope may be no good, i mounted a Bushnell 3x9 and had no trouble getting the scope zeroed. I have several bore sighters unfortunately they only go as small as 22 cal, guess i need another that will go to 17. Another trip to the sporting goods store.:D More info to follow on shooting the 527.
Good to hear the "new" scope fixed things.

Now go make single holes with multiple bullets.;)
I will give a bit of a report on the rifle, the bolt is a little rough when operating but seems to be getting smoother the more i use it. The mag release has some sharp corners that could use a little work and you need to pay attention to how you insert the mag into the rifle for it to seat properly. Over all i'm quite happy with the 527 it could use a little bit of polishing on the small details though tro clean up some sharp edges. Accuracy looks good with the Hornady 20 gr bullets, no other factory ammo available to try and i have to acquire dies for reloading so i can test other ammo and with winter coming on and other rifles to check over for coyote and deer hunting further testing may be on hold.:D
