Good Morning fellow CZ fans. I just purchased my first handgun - a CZ 75 Compact D PCR and I’m very excited! It’s going to be my carry pistol and I want to make sure it’s good to go. Does anyone know what the best upgrade for the firing pin roll pin is and if it should be replaced ASAP?

Shoot it first before making any changes. The firing pin roll pin can be changed later.

See what the pistol can do out-of-the-box and shoot several hundred rounds through it with different ammo including self-defense ammo.

Don't start changing things until you've established a baseline for the pistol and how it reacts with you.

Too many people start monkeying with a gun before they know what the gun is capable of doing.

There may be things to change out later. But don't fall for the 'send it off to get it Cajunized' until you know and have experienced what the gun does now. By the way, a Cajunized gun won't make you a better shot until you know that you've wrung everything out of the gun as it exists now.

Even then, a simple M*CARBO trigger spring kit might do the trick including a new firing pin roll pin at far less cost with excellent results.

One more thing. Practice dry firing. Avoid damage dry firing by getting some small neoprene O-rings and place in the notch over the firing pin like a doughnut hole.

an upgraded firing in retaining pin is included in the Mcarbo kit for this model. the last 2 CZs i bought new included several snap caps with rubber primers for safe dry firing.

So, I picked up my PCR from the Gun Shop today, took it home, field stripped, cleaned, and lubricated, and reassembled it. I loaded up a -10 round mag, inserted the mag, and racked the slide and the round jammed! I pulled the slide back, ejected the stuck round which had slammed into the feed ramp, and racked another round which did the same thing. The rounds are home defense rounds/hollow points so I emptied the mag and opened a fresh box of FMJ. I loaded 2 rounds into the mag, racked the slide and they jammed too. I noticed the hollow points left some small marks on the feed ramp where they got hung up. I’m devastated don’t know if the magazines are the issue it’s something else. I suspected there may be an issue w the mags because they don’t look like factory mags nor do they have CZ or mecgar stamped on the mag. Not sure what to do at this point other than call the store and tell them what happened.

Is the gun new or used? Sounds like it is a used gun since you mentioned cleaning and lubricating as that wouldn't be necessary for a new gun other than a patch thru the bore. Take it back to the store where you bought it with the ammo you used. Have them load the mags and see if it happens to them.

Most CZ mags work fine and it's rare that a new (and most used) mags would cause the problem but it's possible. If it's a used gun and it's still not working after the dealer tries, get your money back. To be sure, field strip the pistol again, reassemble and try loading. You've probably already tried this.

I've never had a CZ refuse to load due to a feed ramp problem.

Hi guys, So the problem was user error. I took it to a friend who has a lot of experience with pistols and he showed me how to rack the slide like a man so as to avoid getting a failure to feed. As long as I try to “rip the slide off” when racking the slide - it works perfectly! I must have been assisting the slide and causing the failure.

I took the pistol out for a test run and didn’t have a single issue in the field. Put about 200 rnds through it without failure and the gun performed beautifully! What a great shooting firearm, I couldn’t be happier.

My friend had me run through the “Federal Air Marshal Shooting Qualification” and to my surprise I did really well. I’ve never done any competition shooting and now I see why CZ’s are the go to choice of many competitors.

I made one change last night which was some new grip panels - Coolhand Grips in wood. Much slimmer profile and they feel great. Should aid in a more comfortable carrying experience (see pics).

If I may make a suggestion that will help you rack the slide.

People often try to rack the slide with their off hand while holding the pistol still with their strong hand.

It's much easier if you do a pullback on the slide with your off-hand as you push forward with your strong hand. That way you easily double the power and racking the slide becomes easier.

Glad you got the situation handled. Semi-autos take more thought and practice with the manual-of-arms than revolvers.

They don't look like any CZ factory or Mec-Gar magazines I've ever seen by looking at the bottom, but that's just me. If they're 10-round mags, it may be that the bottom plate was put on to make them legal in the socialist States.

As you'll be wanting extra mags anyway, I buy mine at The MagShack. Just picked up 4 more Mec-Gar 17-rounders last month. Good prices, fast shipping.
