Probably going to dump my P-07... my first gun!

Hey all,

My first gun was a CZ P-07 Duty in 9mm. I use it as a range/self defense gun and conceal/carry it sometimes. I've enjoyed shooting it at the range. But I think I'm going to have to sell it and get something else.

I took it to a Tactical Response 2-Day Fighting Pistol Course and had some problems where I'd sometimes get a double feed when I'd rack the slide.

The 1st time it happened I chalked it up to 1 in a million bad luck.

After it happened a couple more times I blamed myself thinking I had readjusted by grip and hung my pinky over the ejection port (readjusted my grip because my fingers were chewed up from racking it a billion times).

Then I went home and started Dry Fire practicing and it happened some more. I think I've finally identified the true culprit.

The problem, as I see it, is the combination of the small surface area available to rack the slide (due to the slide riding inside the frame and the angles cut off the slide to make it low profile) and the giant, lever style, extractor. What is actually happening is that as I rack it I'm putting a good grip on it to make sure I get the job done and I'm depressing the extractor which is causing it NOT to engage the round in the chamber and thus not extract it.

When I thought it was just my hanging my pinky over the ejection port I thought, perhaps, I could just fix it with training. Now that I see that I am gripping the extractor and disabling it I feel as though it is too likely I'll cause an FTE under stress and I can't be babying or paying attention to the level of detail on simply racking the slide.

I'm sad to have to post this since the P-07 was my first firearm and I wanted to love it. Except for this problem I do love it... but it is a show stopper for me.

Sorry to hear about your P-07 woes. I hate to see you sell it, but if you can't trust your firearm, it's time to part ways.

CZ makes great guns, but I too am not a fan of the P-07s low profile and hard-to-grab slide. It's the main reason I'll never buy one.
Sorry the P-07 didn't work out for you. Guess CZs are not for everyone. Hope you find a platform that works for you.
Good luck, keep looking!
I may look at another CZ, but as you say, the low-pro slide combined with the large extractor isn't working for me. To be honest I don't see how it would work for anyone aggressively running the slide during "real world" actions.

I want to go check out the 75 Compact and P-01.
Sorry for your issues but that 75 compact is a real sweetheart. Good luck!
I think the CZ 75 D PCR Compact would be ideal but I think they might be hard to find. Anyone have any experience with those babies?

I have one and I love it. It weighs no more than the PO7 and is the most accurate handgun I have. The trigger most likely will be pretty rough new. Some smooth out and some don't. If it does not a CGW hammer will turn it into a sweet thang.
I can mirror what WayneJessie just said. My PCR is the most accurate handgun I own and have yet to have a feed or extract issue from it. It is a bit more compact than the P0-7 and weighs about the same. Of course I also own a P0-7 and have not had a any problems with it either. That must be one hell of a grip you are putting on that slide to compress the extractor. You might also want to look at the P-02 with the omega trigger. Same kind of trigger the P0-7 has and you can also change out the safety for a decocker. It is just like the P0-1 except for the omega trigger and the changeable decocker/safety.
I have the custom shop P-01 Protek-2 and love it haven't had any issues with FTF not as accurate as my SP-01 shadow but also easier to carry and dead on up to 10 yards tried a P-07 and thought the SA reset was a bit long other than that really nice trigger.
The magazine is the Achille's heel of a semi-auto.
Does it do that with all magazines?
Mark the magazines and keep track of which does it.

Chances are that with use, the lips spread a little.
I love my p-07 duty 9mm. the only issue i have with it is too much muzzle flip. recoil is pretty much non-existent. it is my every day carry gun.
Before you give up on it, have you contacted CZ to see if it's under warranty and have them take a look at it first?

I've already traded it out for a Glock 19.

That being said, there is definitely nothing "wrong" with the pistol. The problem is the design combining the low profile slide with the large exposed extractor.

The P07 is the only CZ that didn't really light my fire. My PCR D and alloy Rami 9 are fantastic guns, though. Extremely accurate, never had any issue with either, affordable and their feel in the hand is tops of the 28 pistols I've had in almost 5 yrs. They're also gorgeous.
I made the mistake of buying the P07 in 40 rather than 9.I just couldn't warm up to it.I traded it off for a PPQ also in 40,I shoot it much better, but still havin fits with 40!
Coming in a bit late. I would believe that if you think the slide on the P-07 is low profile, then you would not do any better going to one of the compacts. They have much narrower slides, and just as low of a profile. I would say the narrow slide is one of the biggest complaints I see about CZ's in general.

I sold my G19 years ago as I was slicing my hand up every time I loaded a magazine under pressure. I have larger meaty hands, and it would curl over into the well area and get sliced when I put the magazine in. No single pistol will work for everyone.
It probably doesn't help that Tactical Response will tell you 600 times in four days that the Glock 19 is the only pistol that will reliably work.:)

CZ's are not for everyone. I didn't know anything about them until a friend in IDPA let me shoot his. I will be picking up my third one tomorrow.

I’ve turned into a CZ freak/fanboy/zealot.....whatever you want to call it over the past several years. But the P-07 I had....I just did not like. It shot fine but was just very uncomfortable. I prefer a G19 the the P-07.
That said, I’ve loved the P-01’s and have a few...including a SDP. But this past year I finally got a PCR.......and oh man......wow. I now have two of them and it is my favorite gun. (I have Sigs, Cz’s, berettas, and other very nice guns). But the PCRs I have.....I like every single thing about them. They are....for me.....the perfect handgun for concealed carry. Try em out man.

WTF are real world actions?

I work the slide from the front on every pistol I own (P-07, P-09, P-10C, P-10F. 75, G17, and G19) doing all sorts of manipulations under time stress. Never an issue.
