I replaced the safety on mine with the extended one but the right side stayed on I just had to pull back the spring of the left side to pull the safety out and put the new one in with the hammer pulled all the way back.

Yeah I don’t know how that happened unless like you said it disappeared when it was taken apart or the previous owner did it
