Hi,
I am a new member but not new to the CZ addiction. This has me going down the route of refinishing a surplus cz75, and I was directed to this forum to ask for advice about slow rust bluing.
I’ve been doing Laurel mountain and have noticed faint pitting mostly on the flat surfaces after a couple cycles. I have realized it’s a combination of too much time (more than 4-5 hours) or too much humidity (stopped using a humidifier in the bathroom since I believe that caused condensation).
I’ve since been able to avoid putting after a resand, and am 5 cycles in. However now I am struggling to get much more than very fine rust after 4 hours.
Should I just continue to accept this fine rust or should I do something different? I don’t think the bluing is complete because the steel grain orientation is still easily visible on the flats. Has anyone messed with dilution of the solution due to aggressive etching/pitting? I haven’t found anyone else with this problem, but I know steel composition may influence this here. People talk about pitting after like 24 hours but I have seen pitting in just 6-7 hours without high humidity.
Anyways, hoping someone would be able to give me some advice on this issue.
Thanks!

The more you cycle it the harder it is and the longer it takes to get good coverage of red rust. After about 5 cycles it then takes days not hours to get the rust coverage you need to do another cycle. I would do several more and wait 24 hours between cardings. As long as you don't bath it in moisture it should not pit at this stage. If you don't get good coverage after several 24 hour wait times you are done. Below is a link to one i did for a customer. Hope it helps.
