Looked at alot of guns people had walked in to the gunsow in just a few hours on Sat. Didn't do much "table" dealer shopping. Only had a few hours to be there and get back for some more overeating and drinking. Beat the bags and backpacks for an SR22 Ruger. Only thing close was a Sig "Skeeter" .22. Guy would not go lower than 250. I blew that off cause that was only 50 bucks from a new SR22, which he was trying to get also. Saw plenty of Glucks and Springers of every caliber, size and description. All priced at or near retail for new ones on the tables. Checked out alot of rifles and High dollar shotguns too. Mostly Brownings and Bennellii stuff that people wanted their money back out.

Finally talked to a guy I had seen before with the Winchester. He had wanted 4 bills for it and it was just about like new. He was trying to get enough $ for a nice Mosin Nagant 91/30 and some ammo. No luck. Best offer had been 200 on it. He was down to 3 bills now. I checked the gun out good and offered 250. He said he could live with that. While I checked his gun out I let him hold the old Japanese Arisaka rifle I had been dragging around and trying to sell. He asked if it was a Nagant rifle? Told him what it was. He had seen them, but they were more than the Nagant. Asked what it was worth? I told him the dealers had said about 350, but they would only give @ a hundred less. Guess he fell in love with it. Said he had not sold his rifle for enough for a Nagant, so how about a trade. I could really live with that. No cash, straight across. Like new Winchester 30-06 for an old Japanese rifle. SWAPED IT.

I was quite happy with the Winchester. It is pretty much a Winchester Model 70 with a plainer hardwood stock stained and satin finished to look like walnut. Just a couple of tiny stock marks. Blue was good, no rust. Bolt had no noticeable wear. Bore good. Looked unfired. The Model 670s were made for only a few years back in the 70s IIrC. More of a promotional, affordable model 70. Took the scope off of it for the Remington 700 I got that day and put a workable 3X9X40 on it that I had a home.

Gun zeroed up just fine with some factory 150 Rem. Core Locks I had. Good rifle, but I ain't much for the 30-06. Probably keep it a while, maybe swap it. I'm more into the .270s. Got an old Ruger M77 and a BDL Remmy in that cal. Yeah, I know, there isn't much difference.

A pic of it with the replacement scope. Eye relief is a bit short for me. Got a short neck. But ya have to live with that if ya use long action rifles. Can't move the scope far enough back. Taller people with long necks and arms don't have that problem. I just have to streeeetch my neck a bit.

You did OK on that.

Where is he shopping that $250 won't buy a Mosin and a can of ammo?
I think he was just getting disgusted cause he wasn't getting what he ethought it was worth. Guess my B.S. about what they were offering me got him to think it was a better to swap and try to get the $ out of the Arisaka. I was only getting offers on it for 150-2 actually. Probably wanted to get out of there with the Nagant, ammo and some $. Guess his plan didn't work. Saw him with it when I left and he was still showing it around.
