This is my first CZ firearm - had a bit of extra money and wanted to try a CZ and so purchased a 75d compact surplus pistol from Atlantic in VG condition.

I know it's not a P-01 but from what I understand it is but stamped for outside the US and is a surplus firearm.

This will be only my second SA/DA firearms, having owned a Beretta 85 previously.

A few questions - it will likely come with some blemishes and I'm ok with that - my question is, if I want a really good trigger, what should I replace sooner rather than later? Planning on taking it out to shoot as soon as it (hopefully) arrives this week.

I've read plenty that CGW is great for parts, etc. but I don't know that I need to send the entire pistol off for a complete upgrade. For instance, I've replaced the sear on another pistol and experienced how good an improvement that made. So, for this pistol, what parts, if any, should I replace immediately? And, what parts will make for a very enjoyable trigger pull?

Excellent gun! Shoot it a lot first before you decide if you want to upgrade I'm the odd man out here, but I've kept all my CZ's stock, I've neve felt the need of an "Upgrade". I was going to send my P-01 to CGW but after a couple hundred rounds my thought was "How can they make it better? It's great the way it is! Same with the 97b .45. A fellow firearms instructor asked me "Who did the trigger work on the 97b?" I told him factory gun. He couldn't believe it.

1aircavallry gave good advice, advice I've followed. I am happy with my still-stock 75 Compact and 75 PCR (compact sized, but with alloy frame and decocker). But I've also watched YouTube videos on doing the trigger upgrades - changing the trigger springs, etc. Armed with the proper tools, I'm persuaded I have the skills, eyesight and patience to do that work at home - no need to send it to CGW or another smith. [Note: each configuration has its own unique trigger upgrade kit.]

But the videos also demonstrate that working on the decocker models is somewhat more difficult than the safety models - it may require another tool or two, better eyesight, better workspace lighting and more patience. Ultimately it depends on how your CZ is configured and your comfort level in doing the surgery at home. Moreover, if I did install a trigger kit, I'd take the opportunity to do other work at the same time - polishing a few fire control parts, etc. All in, I might turn a 45-minute task into a 3- or 4-hour project. But either way, I'd learn more about how the pistols function. And that, for me, is almost as much fun as firing the pistols.

I've bought trigger upgrade kits (in the $30 to $40 range per kit IIRC) for both pistols. They're still in their vendor packaging, awaiting a day when boredom presents an opportunity. Until then I'm happy with what CZ built.

 

Good to know - thanks. I tore a Ruger Mk III apart after the frame cracked and I replaced the frame and rebuilt everything - that had a few tense moments but was ultimately enjoyable and I believe I have a good / better understanding of how that firearm works and I'm very satisfied with the result. Polishing the internals did A LOT more than I realized prior to doing that.

 

I recommend the MCarbo trigger kit with the improved free floating trigger pin, it's like $50 shipped and my Gunsmith installed it for $50. You won't regret it. Expect to get a D/A pull weight at 6.5 lbs and S/A pull weight of 2.5 lbs.
